A response to Leon Weinstein’s “Second Open Letter to Senator Barack Obama“:

Leon Weinstein is a conservative Republican who is obviously experienced in the methods of the Republican smear machine. He would never vote for any Democrat, so his “open letter to Senator Barack Obama” is not so much an effort to explain why he won’t vote for Senator Obama, but rather an effort to smear him so that other Jews won’t vote for him either.

You think Robert Malley is a close advisor to Obama, and is also horribly Anti-Israel because he disagreed with Dennis Ross about some events at Camp David.  First, he is not part of Obama’s campaign, and second, he is a talented diplomat and civil Servant. Several prominent Jews and diplomats rose to his defense in NY Review of Books:

Over the past several weeks, a series of vicious, personal attacks have been launched against one of our colleagues, Robert Malley, who served as President Clinton’s special assistant for Arab–Israeli affairs. They claim that he harbors an anti-Israeli agenda and has sought to undermine Israel’s security. These attacks are unfair, inappropriate, and wrong. I have received many emails and seen many articles espousing the patently erroneous view that Barack Obama’s foreign policy advisors are anti-Israel, frequently listing a string of 4 or 5 so-called Obama foreign policy advisors and then asserting loudly that they are anti-Israel.

These assertions could not be further from the truth!
